This certification exam is a one day event. The ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher certification designation was created to certify individuals with hands-on finishing skills and experience but doing so without the requirement of a written exam.
The Concrete Flatwork Finisher is an individual who has demonstrated the experience and skills (via a hands-on performance exam) necessary to place, consolidate, finish, edge, joint, cure and protect concrete flatwork. It is important to note that this certification does NOT include a written exam. It is based solely on the performance examination plus verified work experience.
ACI will grant Concrete Flatwork Finisher certification to those candidates who:
Possess 1500 hours of actual on-the-job finishing experience (approximately one year of regular full-time work) AND
Successfully pass the performance examination.
Candidates must also submit 1500 hours of work experience using the forms available on the ACI website. The submission requirements will differ for individual employees versus union participants and versus self-employed individuals.
The CP-10 workbook is used for content of all the necessary information to perform this exam.
Where is ACI Certification Required?
When construction projects reference ACI Specifications for Concrete Construction (ACI #)!) as part of their construction documents, ACI Flatwork Finisher or Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher certification becomes required. According to ACI 301-20:
5.3.4.1 Finisher qualifications - Unless otherwise specified, at least one finisher or finishing supervisor shall be a certified ACI Flatwork Finisher or Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher or equivalent.
Scope and Knowledge:
The JTA is a detailed list of specific points of knowledge and/or skills that may be included in the examinations for this ACI Certification program. ACI urges candidates to use the JTA to prepare for the certification exams.
JTA for ACI Certification of Concrete Flatwork Associate, Finisher, and Advanced Finisher
Certification Requirements:
Concrete Flatwork Associate: ACI will grant certification to those candidates who obtain a passing grade on the performance examination.
Certification is valid for a period of five years from the date of successfully completing all requirements.
Individuals with Concrete Flatwork Associate certification can upgrade to Advanced Finisher status upon submittal and approval of sufficient work experience or combination of sufficient work experience and passing the ACI performance examination. Certification at the Advanced Finisher level is valid for the remainder of the original Associate certification period.
Advanced Concrete Flatwork Finisher: ACI will grant certification to those candidates who obtain a passing grade on the written examination PLUS either:
PPE is required for all Performance exams. Long sleeve shirts, long pants, closed toe boots, gloves, safety glasses.
We provide all tools and materials required for this exam. Locations vary for every exam session.
